I knew my friend Zoey was into dressing up, so I asked her if she wanted to do a photoshoot sometime. She told me she wanted to be Greta the gremlin, from Gremlins 2. I told her I didn’t really have the skills to help make that happen, and she told me not to worry about it.

When I picked her up, she looked like this.

I think about this shoot a lot, because it made me realize how much I truly enjoy collaboration. I may have my own ideas, but it is remarkably more rewarding to meet someone halfway and create art that truly features input from each of the collaborators. This was very true when taking portraits of Zoey as Greta, and it shaped how I plan projects with people ever since.
